Please arrange for a family member or companion to stay at the surgery center during your visit with us, drive you home and remain with you for 24 hours after the surgery.
If you have a change in physical health, such as a cold or fever, please notify your physician before arriving at the surgery center.
We will contact you prior to your surgery, to provide you with your arrival time and preoperative instructions.
Remember to bring a case for contact lenses or glasses for safekeeping. We will provide containers for removable dentures and bridgework.
Please do not eat or drink anything after midnight, including coffee and water. Please refrain from chewing gum, using mints or smoking cigarettes. Eating or drinking prior to surgery may result in cancellation of your procedure.
Unless instructed by your physician or a nurse, do not take any medication after midnight. If you are diabetic or on blood pressure or heart medication, obtain specific instructions from your physician or contact us at the surgery center.
Contact your surgeon prior to your surgery if you have an Advanced Directive that you wish to be honored.
ON THE DAY OF YOUR SURGERY
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that can accommodate a large bandage after surgery.
Please bathe before your surgery, but do not use lotions or oils, and remove all makeup.
Please leave all valuables at home, including jewelry and cash. We cannot be responsible for damaged or lost property.
Bring a list of all of your regular prescriptive and non-prescriptive medications with you.
Be prepared to sign a form giving consent for the operation. If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must accompany you and sign the consent form.
Bring all insurance cards and your driver’s license with you.
Once you arrive in the pre-operative area, a nurse will give you a patient gown, socks and a locker to store your clothing.
A thorough assessment will be done upon admission and Anesthesia personnel will meet with you to discuss your anesthesia.
Females of a child bearing age will be screened for pregnancy.
Your family member or companion will have the option to stay in the surgery center’s waiting room.
AFTER YOUR SURGERY
Before you leave the surgery center, we will give you written instructions for post-operative care at home.
When home, be sure to follow your physician’s orders regarding diet, rest, medication and activity. It is not unusual to feel a little sleepy, light-headed or dizzy for several hours after your surgery.
A nurse from the surgery center will call you the business day after your surgery to see how you are recovering and answer any questions you may have. If concerns arise over the weekend, or after our business hours, contact your surgeon’s office, and ask for your physician to be paged.
For your safety, do not drive a car, smoke, drink alcoholic beverages, operate machinery, cook, sign any important papers or make any significant decisions for 24 hours after surgery
